Water Purification Co. Pionetics Hires Mitchard As CEO

September 13, 2006

SAN CARLOS, CA — Pionetics Corp., a developer of water purification products for residential, commercial and industrial customers, has appointed co-founder Gordon Mitchard as its new chief executive.

For the past 14 years, Mitchard has served in sales and marketing management roles at JDS Uniphase Corp. and SDL Inc., where he was responsible for businesses providing opto-electronic components to equipment manufacturers in both the telecommunications and industrial markets. Prior to that, he held a variety of engineering and engineering management positions in the graphics industry.

Pionetics’ products use electricity to purify water. The company’s LINX systems are designed to soften water without the use of salt, while removing contaminants without the use of environmentally hazardous chemicals.

Pionetics last raised money in early 2005, when it secured $6.4 million in Series C financing, according to VentureWire records. New investor Epcor Utilities Inc. led the up round, with participation from new investor Unilever Ventures. Returning investors NGEN Partners, Rockport Capital Partners, Topspin Partners, Pangaea Ventures Fund and Firelake Strategic Technology Fund also participated.

San Carlos, California-based Pionetics has raised nearly $12 million, including a $5 million Series B round in 2003, and a $500,000 Series A round from individual investors in 2002.
